Quit Overthinking It!

We do this so often—we wander into the “what ifs” and the “maybes,” getting lost in the weeds of “what about this or that?” But the truth is, we don’t actually know what’s going to happen. And most of the time, what we fear never becomes reality. Still, we let those “what ifs” steal our joy.

We lose sight of the journey because the joy is found in the now. Sure, some of those things could happen—but most won’t. Yet we rob ourselves of the present, of the small joys right in front of us, because we overthink the unknown. The future will come—it always does. But it’s not ours to control. What we can control is being present, grounded, and focused on right now.

So stop worrying about what may come. If we’re honest, we’ve been here before—and those things didn’t happen then either.

The Word says in Philippians 4:6, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” And often, we forget that last part—with thanksgiving. Being grateful for what He has already done.

Gratitude is far more powerful than we give it credit for. In many ways, it covers the weight of the worry we carry every day.

So let me encourage you: instead of overthinking and living in the “what ifs,” what if we focused on gratitude—for what was and for what is? Maybe that’s what grounds us. Maybe that’s what reminds us what really matters—the present.

We know this: God has provided everything we need, and He continues to do so. So stop overthinking it. Stop living in the “what ifs” and “maybes”—in things we may never know—and come back to the now.
