Joshua: Standing on the Promises
Recently I made a commitment to read the Old Testament again. The New Testament is easier to read and understand, but I missed the richness and depth of Old Testament stories.
As I studied the book of Joshua, I was reminded about the parallel between his life and mine. Like him, I have known God’s promises and have believed they would be fulfilled.
Knowing these promises is the first step. But many times, fighting for them is the next. We would love to believe the promises and do nothing else but wait. Even though there are times when that is all we need to do, there are other times we must fight battles along the way – battles of fear, doubt, impatience and fatigue.
Fortunately, I was trained at a young age to be persistent and never give up, no matter how difficult things become. Throughout my lifetime there have been many faith battles to fight. I could write pages of testimonies of how prayers were answered based on His promises.
“You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the Lord your God has given you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.” (Joshua 23:14 NIV).
What do you need in your life? Do you know His promises concerning that need? Are you called to just wait patiently, or do you have battles to overcome along the way?
As you wait for His next promise to be fulfilled, remember to keep fighting with strength through the power of the Holy Spirit, and remember His inheritance is for you.
In Christ,
Linda Langston
