A Summer of Memories & Meaning

Thank goodness summer is here! ☀️

This year has been filled with transitions, loss, blessings, answered prayers, and graduations. Wow! Kris and I have experienced a few personal victories that we’re deeply thankful for. At the same time, I’ve walked through the loss of the father of one of my closest friends. I’m learning that life often asks us to hold both blessing and pain at the same time. And if I’m honest, I’ve been looking forward to summer and the chance for life to slow down a bit so we can all catch our breath.

Summer tends to do two things: it creates space to slow down, and it makes it easy for routines to drift.

That’s why small, consistent investments in your faith—and in your children’s faith—matter so much. Over time, they make a bigger difference than we often realize.

If you’re a parent, summer is a wonderful opportunity to help your children stay connected to God, to friendships, and to the church family. The seeds planted during these months can continue to bear fruit long after school starts back.

And for all of us, gathering together regularly keeps us encouraged, strengthened, and focused on what matters most.

This isn’t a legalistic charge to the body of Christ. In fact, if you had asked me five years ago what I thought about kids playing sports on Sundays, I probably would have given you a very different answer. But after raising three children, I’ve learned just how quickly these years pass.

So to the travel ball parents, enjoy these days. Cheer loudly. Take the trips. Make the memories. Spend those weekends at the ball field or exploring somewhere new together. It all goes by faster than you think.

But when those weekends are free, bring your family to the house of God. Invest in your spiritual life. Invest in your children’s spiritual life. It pays dividends for years to come.

So whether you’re enjoying vacations, lake days, family time, or simply a slower pace, we hope you’ll make worship and community at EWC a priority this summer.

And most of all, I hope life slows down enough for you to truly soak it all in.

P.S. The featured photo is a little nod to the summer of 2012… which honestly still feels like about a year ago. 😅

Happy Summer!
