Your Hearts Desire

I have enjoyed reading the previous blogs. It allows us to see people in a different light. Gaining the perspective of others helps me to be a better individual, which keeps me balanced.

I can not tell you the times I have been talking with parents on kid issues and I would ask, “Do you know what Colossians 3:20 says?” Their reply would be, “isn’t that about children obeying your parents?” I answer, “Yes, Do you know what the verse before that says?” They have no idea. Colossians 3:19 talks about parents not exasperating/ frustrating their children. Over the years how many of us have heard, “The Lord wants to give you the desires of your heart?” Is that really true? What if your desire falls outside the Word of God? Again, we must go back to the first part of  Ps.37:4, “Take delight in the Lord,.” (Delight - great pleasure, joy, to please greatly). If I am pleasing God greatly then in my opinion I will be applying His principles to my life, obeying His commands and giving Him His “Due” as our Creator & Savior.

Mike Warnke a Christian comedian from back in the day, made a statement that has been with me for years. He said, “There are a lot more Do’s in the Book than there are Don’ts” If we love Him we will spend our time doing the “Do’s and won’t have time to do the don’ts. If we could we wouldn’t, we can’t, so we don’t. So, it’s COOL.”

The point of this is if I really intend to please God than I must surrender what I want to Him. He then gives back to me great joy. When I am full of joy and taking delight in the Lord, then it is easy for Him to give me the desires of my heart because my desires line up with His word.

I can not count the times that I allow the fear of my own need not getting met to cause me to stop doing the “Do’s” which then takes my focus off of Christ and places it on me. You can ask my wife and kids when I focus on my own needs – My whole family suffers. I must examine myself daily to make sure I am focused on Him.

What are you focused on today?

God does want to give you your hearts desire. He is waiting for us to delight in Him.
