This Wednesday at the youth meeting Hunt Slade (safehousecoffeeandtea.com) spoke on Mathew 14
13When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
15As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food."
16Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat."
17"We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish," they answered.
18"Bring them here to me," he said. 19And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.
I think the majority of people have heard this story before, but some points that Hunt made really hit home with me.
1. Is that this event took place right after John the Baptist had been murdered. He was a dear friend and relative of Jesus. The love and compassion that he shows is astonishing. The fact that in running from the police and being in pain from losing a dear friend, he sees a need and he meets it no questions asked. Just sees it and meets it.
2. Also the fact that they have very little and Jesus lifts it up to the Father and prays over it and gives it to the disciples and the disciples distribute it. The first part of that is that Jesus lifted up the little small amount that they had, and the Father used it to do amazing things... This means that God no matter how much or little you have to offer can use it for great things. The second part is that the disciples weren't given huge baskets of food from Jesus they were all given small amounts. They had to have faith that the small amount that they had was going to feed the thousands.
So in short what you have, whatever it is, however much or little you have, can be used to change lives. All you need is God and a little faith. God has made you specifically who you are and he will use you where you are!
