If you’re a brand new parent or have no kids in your household, you may be thinking that this is quite an ordinary day… just checking your email, running errands, business as usual. However, every parent in Spalding County with a 5-18 year old will realize that this is the eve of a day unsurpassed by almost all others throughout the year… a day rivaled only by the 25th of December, a glorious day for kids (not to mention teachers) across the land... THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! Yes, what a joyous time, what freedom, what elation, what… am I going to DO with them all day?! Ok, so admittedly we moms (and dads) may not be quite as hyped about the great shift in our household routine that comes along with summer break. But – the promise of vacation memories yet to be made, and a few lazy evenings on the fresh-cut lawn with my husband and our little barefoot gang… that’s enough incentive for me to go ahead and get excited too. After all it sure beats winter, and I am looking forward to spending my summer days with my babies – and yours too!
Truly I want to compliment you all as parents, grandparents, and mentors to our kids at EWC. They are a precious, precious group and you should be very proud. Last Sunday (day before Memorial Day) was just one of those times that we as teachers so felt God’s presence and anointing among our kids… one of those days that makes the planning, time and effort that goes into it so totally worth every minute. It wasn’t any major event, just a sweet spirit that kind of settled over our classrooms. In praise and worship we had those who were getting over sickness prayed for by their friends. Kindergarten and First Grade wrote letters of encouragement to Pastors in India and other parts of the world. A group of 2nd & 3rd grade boys began to understand what it means to really focus on the Holy Spirit when we pray. Marsha G. and Christie A. were able to share personal accounts with 2nd-5th grades of how God is always with us during times of grief and loss. We missed a few who were out for the holiday weekend, but even that felt like God’s hand was in it, ordaining whom he knew needed to be there for an intimate experience. We always feel God’s presence in our children’s services in one way or another, but I just had to share with you such a perfect example of one of those times that remind me of just how important these kids – your kids and mine – are to the God of the Universe. He has big plans for them. It is an awesome responsibility to be helping that plan along, and we thank you for entrusting them to us. Psalms 112 reminds us…
How joyful are those who fear the Lord And delight in obeying his commands. Their children will be successful everywhere; An entire generation of godly people will be blessed. (Ps. 112: 1-2, NLT)
I hope you have a wonderful, memorable summer with your kids this year. And don’t worry. It’s only 9 more weeks…J
