After all, it is a representative image. It can be made of cloth, plastic, or some other material. It is really the image that is important. On the surface, each part of the flag represents something specific. The thirteen stripes represent the original thirteen colonies. The stars represent the states. While the designers of the first flag did not assign representations to the colors, over the years they have come to be representative. White represents purity and innocence, red represents hardiness and valor, and blue vigilance, perseverance and justice.
In addition to the individual components, the flag as whole represents different aspects of our national heritage. It represents our military forces and those who sacrificed their lives for our country. It represents national pride. It represents freedom. It represents democracy. And these are only a few. I am sure more would immediately come to your mind.
Now, I want you to visualize Eagles Way Church. Or, visualize the logo of Eagles Way. What comes to mind? For me, it represents nearly 25 years of my church life. It is the place I met most of my really close friends. It is the place I experienced most of my spiritual growth. It is a place that expanded my vision of Christianity and who God really is. It is a place that I have learned biblical precepts, as well as a place I have taught biblical precepts. It is the place I learned to walk out these precepts during good times and not so good times. It is the place I learned what forgiveness is and how to accept others. It is the place that allowed me to experience the mission field in India. It is the place I could receive encouragement when I needed encouragement. It is the place I learned about relationships…. we are hurt in relationships, and we are healed in relationships. It is a place of security. It is a place where we realize we don’t know everything when it comes to the things of the Spirit; we operate in what we know and put a comma afterwards so we can grow. I could go on for some more sentences, but I think you get the idea.
I am sure you have your own thoughts as to what Eagles Way Church represents to you. Take a moment to reflect as you visualize the church, or its logo.
As I visualize and contemplate, one thing I realize is that I have not done much teaching recently. I have gone through a time in my life where I was not allowing that aspect of my Christian walk to be exercised. So, I have offered to start teaching again. I am open to what God wants from me. I am convicted that the things that were put in me should not be left useless. I was young, and now I am older. For those that are young in Christ now, I should be more nurturing. And thus, here am I.
