As I think about it now I would not eat a Brussels sprout for anyone, for any reason. In that situation I “obeyed” (on outside, not inside) out of duty. In my teens, I can remember going to church not because I wanted to but because it was expected (partly because our church meeting was in our living room – home fellowships).
I will never forget the day, although I was already a Christian, that I chose to seek after God because I wanted to, felt compelled to, I loved to, and I got to. Times of obedience when you need to or have to is good, but times of obedience (disciplining yourself) because of your devotion is Best.
I get to follow my God, love my wife, lead my family, and serve my church. I not only need to do these things (duty), I want to do these things (devotion).
I think I am with Buren with our current favorite song:
The Motions – Matthew West

How are you living your Life, Duty or Devotion?

Duty Or Devotion

While sitting at EWC Family Dinner, I shared a story of how my “terrible parents” made me eat Brussels sprouts. Scarred me for life, I need to attend the upcoming Connection on Inner Healing (Ha).
